Adams, Edward (active 1870-1900)

  • Active in the Yarmouth County district of Nova Scotia towards the end of the 19th century, Adam (or Adams) was an extremely competent marine artist, best known for his classical ship portraits. He also painted more entertaining subjects such as ships at sea battling the elements. There is some question as to whether this is the same artist as the French marine painter Edouard Adam, who was active between 1880-1930 and who, together with his father Edmond, were well-known in Europe for their ship portraits.
